What to Bring to Your Los Angeles County CCW Renewal Class

Bring every handgun you want listed on your permit on Day 1. Los Angeles County allows up to three handguns, and you must qualify with each one.

Day 1: Classroom checklist

  • ☐ Every handgun you want listed on your permit
  • ☐ Three unloaded magazines per handgun
  • ☐ An inside or outside waistband holster for each handgun
  • ☐ Concealed carry magazine holders
  • ☐ An open front garment, such as a button up or zip up shirt
  • ☐ A closed front concealment garment, such as a pullover shirt

No ammunition in the classroom. Bring your handguns unloaded and follow instructor directions when you arrive.

Range portion checklist

  • ☐ Your handgun(s), holster, and magazines
  • ☐ Eye and ear protection
  • ☐ Primary handgun: 72 rounds
  • ☐ Second handgun: 20 rounds
  • ☐ Third handgun: 20 rounds
  • ☐ Extra ammunition in case you need to repeat a qualification

Before you leave home: Check that you have every handgun you plan to qualify with. A handgun you do not bring cannot be included in that day’s qualification.

Is this RENEWAL CCW Course approved?
Yes! Public Safety Institute is a Los Angeles County Sheriff Department, Riverside County Sheriff Department, & Kern County Sheriff Department Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) APPROVED Training Provider! NOTE: Riverside County CCW Renewals will start on May 1st.
What do I get after the CCW Course?
You will receive the REQUIRED official RENEWAL Certificate of Completion and the shooting Standards Form documenting your RENEWAL CCW training that you must turn in during your RENEWAL CCW permit application process.
What are the Requirements?
Be 21 years of age. NO Felonies - NO Domestic Violence Convictions - NO Current Restraining Orders - Minimum U.S Resident - NOT be prohibited from buying a handgun.
What Materials or Equipment do I need?
Bring your government issued ID or Driver's License. Note Taking gear (note pad, pen, pencil). Must bring YOUR OWN registered handgun. You can bring up to 3 handguns for your permit. Bring total of 72 rounds per handgun for live fire qualification. Bring eye and ear protection if you have it. Bring an Inside The Waiste (IWB) or Outside The Waiste (OWB) Concealed holster for each handgun you are brining. Bring 3 magazines per handgun with minimum a Double Magazine pouch. Bring OPEN FRONT and CLOSED FRONT concealed carry garment(s).
What is the Dress Code?
CLOSED Toes shoes, NO SANDALS, CROCKS or similar shoes! NO SHORTS. Wear long pants, comfortable shirt, MUST BRING A CONCEALED CARRY GARMENT such as button up shirt AND T-Shirt.
How many handguns can I have on my CCW permit?
Los Angeles County authorizes up to 3 handguns on your permit, Riverside County 6 guns allowed, Kern County 6 guns allowed. There is NO Additional cost to have additional guns on your permit. Yu will need 300 rounds for training and qualification.
Do I have to be Pre-Approved by my agency prior to attending the CCW course?
It is highly recommended that are you pre-approved because of the long processing times.
Where is the Live-Fire Range portion taking place at?
Insight Shooting Range 17020 Alburtis Ave Artesia, CA 90701 We will be going to the range same day.

All of our classes/packages, and courses are final, no cancellations allowed, and no refunds issued once enrolled in any course(s), class(es), or any of our training programs. If you miss your scheduled class, you can always re-schedule for the next available class or Transfer the course to another person.
